Our dentists will have a thorough look at your child's teeth, their brushing skills, and also how their teeth and jaw are developing to ensure that we can detect any concerns early.

Fissure Sealants
Fissure Sealants
Fissure sealants are an important part in preventing tooth decay. They are done by placing sealant in the grooves of the back molars, where it is harder to clean, and where dental decay most often occurs. Fissure sealants are most commonly placed in children once their molars have emerged.

Children keep some of their teeth until they are 13 years old! It is important to maintain and keep them healthy and free of holes to ensure that deeper damage to adult teeth doesn't occur, as well as avoiding any pain or infection from dental decay. If a deciduous baby tooth develops dental decay, our dentists will determine what type of restoration (or filling) may be required for your child. It is best to get any dark spots or holes checked quickly with your dentist as decay can develop and progress quickly without being detected until too late.

It seems unusual to consider a baby tooth for root canal treatment. However most children will have some adult teeth in their mouths by the time they are 6 years old, and sometimes these teeth, or baby teeth can get hit with an injury that makes the tooth unhealthy. Root canal treatment helps to clear out any unhealthy part of the root, and replace it so that the tooth can survive for many more years. Free Dental for Eligible Children
Free Dental for Eligible Children
The team at Bayside Family Dentist are proud to be participating in the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS). The CDBS provides dental benefits for all eligible children between 2-17 years old. It is capped at $1000 over two calendar years. The Child Dental Benefit Schedule covers a range of general and preventative treatment including examinations, x rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, and extractions. To check eligibility, please contact Medicare or one of our friendly team members with your Medicare details.
